JOB PURPOSE:

The Poldrack Lab in the Stanford University Department of Psychology is looking for an experienced Software Developer for the OpenNeuro data archive (http://openneuro.org). The incumbent will join a team of research software engineers, and will be expected to propose, conceptualize, design, and implement development solutions for this complex, multi-stakeholder resource. This position will involve interacting with a diverse client base and managing multiple outside vendor contacts. Specific duties include: testing, debugging, change control, and documentation for major projects; monitoring and responding to user support issues; troubleshooting and resolving complex technical problems; meeting with project manager and team to understand long-term needs and objectives for the project; engage in long-term strategic planning; and overseeing the operation, support, and maintenance of the OpenNeuro platform (including performance and security monitoring). This position requires a high level of technical skill, attention to detail, and ability to work as part of a dynamic and fast-paced team. The ideal incumbent will have expertise using TypeScript/JavaScript, ReactJS, and Python in research computing settings. Experience with Kubernetes is desirable, though not required. This position is eligible for remote work arrangement. This is a 1-year fixed-term position with the possibility of renewal.

CORE DUTIES:

  • Conceptualize design, implement, and develop solutions for complex system/programs independently.

  • Work with a variety of users to gain information, and develop intra-system tradeoffs between different users, as necessary; interact with a diverse client base and outside vendor contacts.

  • Document system builds and application configurations; maintain and update documentation as needed.

  • Provide technical analysis, design, development, conversion, and implementation work.

  • Work as a project leader, as needed, for projects of moderate complexity.

  • Serve as a technical resource for applications.

  • Compare, evaluate, and implement new features and technologies, and integrate them into the computing environment.

  • Follow team software development methodology.

  • Mentor lower level software developers.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Expertise in designing, developing, testing, and deploying applications.

  • Proficiency with application design and data modeling.

  • Ability to define and solve logical problems for highly technical applications.

  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical clients.

  • Ability to lead activities on structured team development projects.

  • Ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods.

  • Knowledge of application domain.

  • Frequently sit, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.

This remote role is open to candidates anywhere in the United States. Stanford University hasfive Regional Pay Structures. The compensation for this position will be based on the location of the successful candidate.The expected pay range for this position is $105,000 to $139,000 per annum.
