The Institute for Diversity in the Arts (IDA) is an interdisciplinary program that supports visionary arts leadership by stewarding the power of the arts toward social justice. IDA hosts artists, advances arts curriculum, stages experimental productions, and supports artistic leadership through year-long and summer-long fellowships. At IDA, the arts are a powerful means for empowering difference, dismantling oppression, and building more sustainable futures.

The Program Manager plays an important role in connecting IDA’s academic programs to the university’s core mission. Reporting to the Associate Director of IDA, the Program Manager is responsible for implementing, administering and evaluating a range of academic programs and initiatives including but not limited to IDA’s Undergraduate Courses, Programs with Visiting Artists, Community Arts Fellowship and student success within IDA’s Undergraduate Creative Honors Thesis Program. It is expected that this role will frequently interface with academic partners, community partners, IDA visiting and guest artists as well as graduate and undergraduate students. This position requires a deep understanding of the intersections between arts, culture, and social justice, as well as a passion for developing diverse artistic perspectives and student voices. A successful candidate will have the ability to independently manage multiple projects, often with competing deadlines and will possess a strong attention to organization and detail. Experience with curriculum development, and/or in arts education is a plus.

In this role, you will:

  • Implement, administer and evaluate day-to-day activities for IDA’s Academic Programs portfolio including Undergraduate Courses, Visiting Artist Program, Community Arts Fellowship, and Creative Honors Thesis Fellowship.

  • Organize and/or participate in events and outreach activities that may include developing communications, planning / promoting events associated with classes and programs. May also be asked to represent IDA to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.

  • Oversee and/or process a variety of financial transactions; including purchasing card and travel card transactions, contracts and payments as well as monitor and maintain program budgets in partnership with IDA Associate Director.

Undergraduate Courses

  • Administer the day-to-day operations of IDA’sundergraduate coursesincluding identifying, advising and supporting IDA’s Spring Class and courses taught by IDA Faculty Director, Artist-in-Residence, Visiting Artist, and affiliated instructors.

  • Work with instructors to build compelling course titles, descriptions, and syllabi; as well as manage course enhancements including guest instructors, course assistants, public engagements, and community engagement opportunities.

  • Work with academic partners to register, schedule and promote classes as well as appoint, onboard and pay visiting artists.

  • Work with Marketing and Communications to build publicity plans and materials for courses and events. Support student outreach broadly and as it relates to academic programs.

  • Communicate class plans and schedules to IDA Associate Director to be incorporated into larger season planning efforts for IDA ahead of each academic year.

  • Encourage faculty and instructors to use the Harmony House and to engage with IDA as faculty advisors.

  • This role is responsible for managingIDA’s Spring Classincluding registration, outreach, onboarding guest instructors, course assistants, and coordinating events and community engagement.

Creative Honors Thesis

  • Work with academic partners to recruit, identify, and prepare undergraduate students for IDA’s Creative Honors Thesis Program.

  • Ensure Creative Honors Thesis students are meeting requirements for graduating with honors, and have what they need to ensure a successful year.

  • Work with instructors and advisors to align expectations for student advancement and success.

  • Attend department capstone meetings and classes as a representative of IDA, and speak on behalf of IDA’s academic programs.

  • Work with IDA’s Faculty Director to implement new initiatives with academic partners.

  • Share relevant information with IDA Associate Director to be incorporated into larger season planning efforts for IDA ahead of each academic year.

Academic Archives

  • Maintain IDA’s Academic Archives including collecting and analyzing student data, creating digital files, reviewing and explaining student thesis and academic trends. Working with IDA’s academic partners to gather and maintain entries to these archives.

Community Arts Fellowship

  • Manage recruitment for Summer Community Arts Fellowship including information sessions, outreach, and student meetings to support the application process from end to end.

  • Work with Marketing and Communications to build publicity plans and materials for recruitment and events.

  • Support students working with community partners through summer outreach, meetings and activities.

  • Support donor relations for the fellowship including fellow selection, celebratory lunch and communications

  • Collect student reporting at the end of summer and deliver to the Associate Director for inclusion into larger IDA reporting efforts.

  • May be asked to support other areas as needed.

Please note that this position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered hybrid with the expectation to be on campus 4 days per week during the school year and 2-3 days per week during the summer. In addition, this position may require working evenings and the occasional weekend.

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

The expected pay range for this position is $69,100 – 105,000 per annum.
