Stanford Online High School offices are located at the Stanford Redwood City Campus . This position is eligible for Remote work, though some travel to the main campus, up to 3 times per year for important in-person events, will be expected.

The Division Head of Science will oversee instruction and curriculum of all science courses at Stanford OHS, including managing and mentoring science instructors, collaborating with administrators on enrollment and staffing of courses, and representing the division within the school community. You will have the opportunity to inform school policies and drive school-wide initiatives in collaboration with the academic leadership. In addition, the Division Head of Science will instruct two sections of classes within their discipline. Classes meet synchronously twice a week throughout the academic year on a college-style schedule to engage in discussion of the course material. You will be expected to bring your advanced expertise and skills to a wide variety of activities throughout the school and should be adaptable in working with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and administration.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Oversee instruction and curriculum throughout the Stanford OHS Science Division.

  • Supervise and mentor 10 science instructors and foster a shared approach to pedagogy that incorporates the latest effective practices in the discipline.

  • Manage enrollment and staffing of science courses.

  • Hire and onboard new science instructors as needed.

  • Address individual issues that arise regarding placement or instruction in support of student success.

  • Prepare for class, lead engaging synchronous online discussion sections with small class sizes, meet with students during office hours, and assist students in using additional resources to achieve course learning objectives.

  • Monitor student progress, give feedback, grade assessments, and team with students, parents, counseling staff, and administrative staff in support of student learning.

  • Engage with the student community as an advisor to clubs, leader of a homeroom, and/or wellness coach. Participate in other OHS community events in-person and online such as Homecoming and Graduation.

  • Develop and teach residential summer mini-courses.

  • Serve on school committees and other collaborative groups with colleagues.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • PhD degree (or equivalent course work) in subject area relevant to that being taught by instructor. Five years of experience teaching at the high school/college level, or equivalent.

  • Experience in management or mentoring of instructors.

  • Facility with teaching traditional and online courses.

  • Ability to develop curricula of online courses.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage or mentor instructional and administrative staff.

  • Experience developing extra-curricular and co-curricular activities.

  • Proficiency using computer applications.

  • Demonstrated commitment to developing student talents and abilities in both academic and co-curricular contexts.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, and use a telephone.

  • Frequently grasp lightly/fine manipulation.

  • Must be able to conduct real-time voice-video seminars and spend 25-30 hours per week in front of a computer screen.

The expected pay range for this position is $85,000 - $114,000 p er year. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
