The Office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Education (VPGE) and the Haas Center for Public Service are seeking an Associate Program Director of Graduate Student Engagement.The Associate Program Director will support VPGE and the Haas Center in developing and sustaining programming that supports graduate students across Stanford’s seven schools in understanding, practicing, and engaging in community engaged work and research. Half the role will be dedicated to supporting the RAISE (Research, Action, and Impact through Strategic Engagement) Doctoral Fellowship Program in VPGE. The other half of the role will be supporting graduate student engagement programming in the Haas Center, including the Graduate Public Service (GPS) Fellowship, the Research as Praxis speaker series, and the emerging Graduate Community Engaged Teaching (Grad CET) Fellowship.

This role reports to the Director of Community Engaged Research in the Haas Center. In support of the university’s flexible work initiative, this position may be eligible to be “hybrid,” working both from home and the Stanford main campus with the expectation of being onsite at least three days per week.

In this role, you will:

● Develop, implement, and administer the vision, strategy, and goals of events and programs for graduate students in VPGE and the Haas Center, including courses, professional development workshops, retreats, guest speaker visits, mentor trainings, and community-building events

● Fluently and independently advise PhD students on the theory and practice of community engaged research

● Independently develop curriculum, teach, facilitate, and lead administrative tasks for graduate student fellowship programs

● Mentor cohorts of graduate fellows and their fellowship projects by meeting with fellows 1:1, providing feedback and advice for fellows’ research projects and community engagement strategies, and serving as a liaison to faculty, departments, and community organizations

● Support recruitment and selection processes for fellowship programs

● Manage project funds and processes, including review of funding proposals, in coordination with VPGE and Haas Center financial teams

● Support the development and execution of marketing and communications strategies for graduate student engagement programs

● Lead evaluation efforts for graduate student engagement programs and events by collecting and analyzing data and creating reports to formulate solutions and recommendations for program improvement

● Participate in the long-range planning, institutionalization, and partnership development for the RAISE (Research, Action, and Impact through Strategic Engagement) Doctoral Fellowship Program and Graduate Community Engaged Teaching (Grad CET) Fellowship

● Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, perform desk-based computer tasks. Occasionally use a telephone, writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds. Rarely sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds. Ability to use voice to present information/communicate with others. On-campus mobility.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

● Graduate degree and two years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience

● Ability to develop program partnerships and funding sources.

● Excellent oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization.

In addition, preferred requirements include:

● PhD preferred

● Knowledge of and experience addressing structural inequalities; understanding of how systems of power such as race, class, and gender impact students and communities

● Knowledge of and experience navigating ethical challenges in research; experience with the IRB

● Knowledge of the experiences of, and professional development needs of, doctoral students

● Familiarity with the varied practices of doctoral training across the university

● Ability to balance the management of long-term, complex projects with day-to-day program activities and communications

● Experience mentoring or advising diverse groups of graduate students across varied disciplinary backgrounds

● Experience with community engaged learning and research

● Experience building and sustaining campus and community partnerships

● Experience with community engaged work, activism, and/or public service work

● Experience teaching graduate level courses

The expected pay range for this position is $95,000 to $139,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
